Solo Adventures for Women Over 60
Ever see the TV series Band of Brothers? The first episode takes place at Camp Toccoa in northern Georgia at Currahee where the first US paratroopers Easy Company trained. They had to run 3 miles up and 3 miles down with their gear on in 45 minutes. So, it took me about 2 1/2 hours. It's actually quite steep. Most people drive it. There's a really cool museum there.
Hi, I'm Meg and I'll be 70 in December. I work as a hospice nurse and love to travel.
My Mantra: don't wait until your bucket list becomes "oh, I wish I had done this or gone to see that" and you no longer can.
You can travel alone or with others but just do it!

Check out my European trip. My Dad was in WWII in the 3rd infantry division. He landed at Anzio beach. He was a tank driver. The picture above is of Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Germany in the Alps. I found over 100 photos he had taken during the war that no one knew existed. They were in a shoebox in the closet tucked way back in a corner. I went to Europe and retraced his footsteps.
Leadville Colorado the highest city in North America at 10,156 miles high. It's an old mining town with a museum, lots of hiking, skiing, a few bars. Very cool. Oh, and don't accidentally drive your car up a ski slope-don't ask.
Fred Haise Apollo 13 pilot statue in Biloxi Mississippi. Do you remember Apollo 13? The moon landing was aborted due to damage to the spacecraft. The movie directed by Ron Howard was fabulous. You have to remember the technology way back then in the 70s. It's just remarkable that we pulled this off.
So this is Canyonlands National Park in Utah. I went there because I had read the book by Aron Ralston 127 Hours. He hiked into Bluejohn Canyon in the park in the San Rafael Desert. He fell into a crevice and his hand was trapped by a huge boulder.After days there surely to die, he amputated his hand with a cheap multi-tool knife. I wanted to get a feel for what this place was like. My advice-don't go alone and don't try to hike any of it in July, you can never carry enough water in. I think I lasted about 45 minutes before I turned around.
Tallulah Gorge lookout in Tallulah Gorge State Park in northern Georgia. The Wallenda family known as the Flying Wallendas are high-wire daredevils. Karl Wallenda at 65 years-old skywalked across the gorge for 1000 feet 750 feet above the gorge floor in just 18 minutes! The hiking in the park is fabulous.
The Lynard Skynard memorial where their plane crashed Magnolia Mississippi. It's stunning and solemn.
